The Toddler Teething Phase
As your baby grows they will go through many stages. Some will be exciting to watch as your baby
makes progress from a tiny totally dependent infant who does little more than eat and sleep to that fun loving
toddler who begins to explore the world with each new step they take. Sometimes though there are phases that are
difficult for your child. One is during the toddler teething phase.
Some people believe that when their child is going through that toddler teething phase that all
sorts of ailments can be ascribed to the fact that there are new teeth coming in. They claim anything from diarrhea
and vomiting to fever are caused by the eruption of their toddler’s next teeth.
There are many who will disagree with this. They will say that though the toddler teething phase
can be a painful one for baby’s mouth that it does not cause symptoms that sound more like disease than just the
normal sufferings of a small mouth that has baby teeth popping up.
Some of the symptoms of toddler teething will often include drooling. If baby drools a lot they
can wind up with a rash on their faces from the drool sitting on the skin for extended periods of time. So, it’s a
good idea to keep your toddler’s face as clean as you can without irritating baby more by constantly wiping their
face.
Their gums will swell as the teeth push through and this makes their mouth sensitive enough that
it may affect their appetites. Don’t worry about this. Just find your toddler something softer to eat while they
are suffering this pain.
The toddler teething phase often makes your little one irritable. That too is perfectly normal.
It may even make sleeping more difficult. There are a few things you can do to help this discomfort. One is to get
them one of the baby gels that you rub onto their gums this will relieve the pain and is available in several
flavors so that it tastes good for baby.
There are also teething rings that can be put in the freezer and so provide baby with something
cold to gum on. This also can alleviate some of the teething pain.
