Finding The Right Teething Toy
There are so many choices available when you go out to buy your baby a teething toy. The question is which one will they like.
First, before you go running to the local baby store see if you have anything around the house to help alleviate baby’s tender mouth during those teething episodes. Some babies really like to chew on the crust from a piece of toast when they have teething pain. They don’t really chew it, of course, more like gumming it and most of it just gets wet and mushy, it is not usually swallowed at all. But if a bit of mess will make baby happy and ease the pain then it certainly is worth it.
A teething toy can be in one of two groups. They are either things that are made especially for teething or toys that are good for playing with any time butt that will also be good at teething time. This second group comprises any toys that are made of a soft rubber that baby can chew on. They can be in the shape of anything colorful that will catch baby’s eyes. Rattles are often like this with the noise working to entertain baby as they gum their way through a day of teething pain.
Then there is the teething toy that is made specifically for your baby’s painful teething episodes. These come in a variety of shapes and sizes and often have a liquid in them the purpose of which is so that you can put it into the freezer and make a cooled toy for baby to chew on. These cooled teething rings or pacifiers give baby relief from the pain of teething while giving them something colorful to keep them amused. The teething toy will often take the edge off the teething pain and allow baby to feel less irritable, more calm and ready for a little of that sleep they have missed because of their mouth pain.
These teething pain episodes will repeat themselves many times during the time that baby is sprouting new teeth so it will be a good idea to hang onto their favorite teething toy until it is all over.
